School Direct (SD) is an Initial Teacher Training route which prides itself on its school-centred approach.
It enables schools and groups of schools to recruit the trainees that best meet their needs, with the expectation that those teachers will go on to work in the group of schools where they trained. Our School Direct training is run in conjunction with the University of Southampton, which is a prestigious member of the Russell Group of universities, and the programme leads to both Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the award of a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
Portswood Primary School is proud to be judged Outstanding by Ofsted, and as such, it is exceedingly well-placed to lead the Portswood Teaching School Alliance School Direct Programme in conjunction with the University of Southampton. Our training programme is well established; we are proud to have trained over 115 School Direct trainees successfully and all have secured teaching posts within alliance schools and beyond for their next academic years.
We are pleased to offer the School Direct programme for the primary phase. We offer both Salaried (suitable for trainees with 3 years or more of employment experience) and Training (unsalaried) programmes across a range of phases.
